I have purchases cycling shoes for road and mountain biking for many years. Like so many other people with a wide foot and high arches, finding a shoe that truly fit is hard to come by. When I saw these shoes, GIRO HV+ and read some of the reviews I thought I would give them a try.I wear a size 10 1/2 or 11 shoe depending on the manufacturer. I ordered a size 11 US or 45 EU to give my toes a little space (I hate hammer toes). It turns out I made the right choice, the fit is perfect, the width, toe space and design of the closure mechanism, the way the tongue is attached to shoe, it all combined to make a really good fit for me.Because of my high arching feet, my experience with cycling shoes is that the tongue of the shoe barely cover the arch of my feet because the tongue of the shoe is too narrow, sewn to one side or the other side of the shoe.On the GIRO HV+ shoe the tongue is attached to the toe of the shoe, in addition the tongue is wide enough to cover the arch of my feet.Riding with the GIRO HV+ is a pleasure, my wide feet are not squeezed because of the shoe width, plenty of toe space, a really comfortable tongue that actually cover the arch of my feet, no hot spot at the ball of my feet.Final word is the GIRO HV+ is the best fitting mountain bike shoe I have ever purchase/ rode and I have been mountain biking off and on for,,,, when mountain biking first became a thing (that was in the 80s) and that is a long time. These size 48s were supposedly a size 13.5 when converted to US sizes. I wear a 13 and they were still too short and very narrow. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until my feet swelled after my first ride when they were covered in mud and scuffed so I couldn't return them (my fault). I did get my specific size (48) at around half the price other sizes were listed for on Amazon at least.I have noticed Giro shoes tend to run very narrow, even when listed as regular width like these. I doubt ordering even a full size up would've given me enough width. The sides of the balls of my feet stuck out over the sole by at least 1/2 inch on both sides and my large toes rubbed painfully on the hard toe caps. The cleats sit deep enough that I had to use spacers to be able to clip into my pedals and have some float. Despite the cleats sitting deep in the tread, they still scrape on the ground while walking. I have a few other brands of mountain bike shoes that do not have this issue. I believe this is due to the shape of the shoe and tread curving up significantly in the front. They are well made and seem very durable. The tread is thick and knobby and offers good grip on muddy hills. The soles are nice and stiff for good power transfer. These are definitely XC racing style shoes.I sold these at a significant loss and switched to a more hiking style shoe by Pearl Izumi, which I am very happy with.Long time MTBer here. Never owned Giro MTB shoes before and never ordered bike shoes online without trying on first. Wasn't really expecting a great shoe for this price but I was pleasantly surprised. They are great shoes. I wear a US men's size 10 in all casual and athletic shoes. I ordered a 44 in these and the fit is perfect. They even fit OK with my Woolie Boolie winter socks. The fit is snug but not so much in the toe box which is exactly what I need in an MTB shoe. Do note however that I do not have an exceptionally wide foot. The sole is VERY stiff. Again, exactly what I wanted so no power is lost in the pedal stroke. I use Crank Bros Candy pedals. I used the shims for the cleat installation and the pedal engagement is easy and exact. Even with the shims I can walk in these and the cleats not click the floor or pavement when I walk. These are billed as entry level shoes but from my experience I would have to say they are at least one level above that. Well worth the $52 price tag I paid. Would definitely purchase these again. Actually, I may buy another pair before they are sold out of my size. Will probably never see them again at this low price.I’m an amateur at this but these shoes and clipping in is great.Do order larger than the Giro web site says – I bought the recommended size and had to return them and go a full size up (not just a half size up). The hard shank keeps the foot from becoming sore where it contacts the pedal, spreading the stress of peddling out over the entire foot not just the few inches where the pedals are. Clipping in has been great – I go further and faster now than I did with regular trail shoes and flat pedals. And yes, my first time out I stopped due to an unexpected vehicle and I remembered to unclip after I began falling over. It is winter now and I'm wearing a better sock at 40 deg F and yeah, the toes get a little chilly but they are ok. As an motorcyclist as well I knew these shoes were for me with the reinforced shank and ratchet strap and no laces. Laces are dangerous :-)Giro gloves are the same way - order a size larger!Using these with my new Crank Brothers Double Shot pedals.I have wide feet and most bike shoes are too narrow. The the HV is the wide version of this shoe and fits me well. Sizing is true to size. The sole is adequately stiff, but not overly stiff. The sole has adequate grip for walking but minimal running. There is a spot for front toe cleats, but no toe cleats included. There are screw plugs in the holes so they can be worn out of the box without cleats. Two Velcro straps across the foot allow it to be pulled adequately snug without foot slippage but still allow circulation. The ankle strap levers tight and releases easily. Minor heel slippage for me. Primarily cross country mountain bike shoe, but adequate for road bike too. I think it hits the sweet spot for an all around shoe to use for both, but if you're a competitive racer in either category, probably not the shoe for you. (maybe for competitive cross country mountain biking). We shall see with the durability as others have complained about, but so far construction of the shoe seems good. After few years break I get back to cycling again . I had problems a lot with cycling shoes that days .This Giro model surprised me . Very comfortable and stylish . My size is 42 . I have ordered 1 size bigger and fitts perfectly . Shoe strap replaceable !!! Less than £10 a pair .Amazingly comfortable shoe! My feet are SUPER wide and it makes finding shoes hard. These are great but they did take a little while to break in.Great show, but sizes were off for us. Does not include the plates. I may have missed that in the details.
